Colorful Pet Jewelry

Color concepts are both straightforward and complex. There is a straightforward response – I like it or I don’t like it; and more complex responses that provoke memory and carry emotional resonance. A color can take you back to the kitchen of your childhood home or to your college years.

In considering colors, we respond personally and generically to what they represent.  Certain colors reflect various concepts. For example, dark blue or navy is often associated with tradition or dependability. Purple may represent royalty or magic to some.  There are colors that bring springtime to mind; grassy green, yellow, pink.  When Beasty Bling customers shop our collection, it’s interesting to see what pieces they pick and why – is it color, texture, the overall design? Many of the pet jewelry pieces can be worn by the owner, so many not only consider their pet’s personality but also something they would enjoy wearing.

Colors also have temperature such as hot or cold, warm or cool. They carry qualities of light, such as dark or pale, bright or murky.  Gems are described as being opaque, transparent or translucent.  Aside from the message or idea of the color, gems also have a value based on the marketplace, and often this relates to scarcity, clarity, or the richness of the color.

The semi-precious world of gemstones offers a cornucopia of colors, shapes, textures that create the type of visual interest that I enjoy. When designing pieces for Beasty Bling, be it pet jewelry or people jewelry, I mostly work with semi-precious stones. You will find agates, jasper, quartz in many variations, pearls, shell and coral among others.  Each color, texture and design combination contains a unique feeling for each shopper, which I hope creates a unique experience for years to come.
